Idaho forensic nurse initiative hits milestone

The Idaho State Police announced this week that 250 sexual assault nurse examiners have been trained as part of its initiative.

The statewide initiative set out in 2017 to train 250 nurses to provide medical forensic examinations, enhancing accessibility to care for sexual assault survivors.

With the dedication of these nurses who have completed the SANE training program, medical and forensic support is available to more survivors all over Idaho, a press release said.

“Reaching this milestone means more survivors across Idaho, especially in rural areas, can get the care they need sooner and closer to home,” said Deb Wetherelt, Director of the SANE Program.
