HAVRE, Mont. — With a mix of new and old — facing a familiar face — North Idaho College opened its season against NAIA Montana State-Northern on Friday, beating the Lights 27-10.

“We’ve got a couple of guys that have been in the lineup before,” said NIC coach Derrick Booth, in his third season as coach. “We had a lot of guys that stepped up and showed that they’re ready for the moment.”

Conan Northwind (174 pounds), Chandler Loveless (197), Ethan Boulton (141) and Ansen Wilding (133) had wins by decision for NIC.

Travis Waldner, who wrestled the previous two years at NIC, won via decision at 174 for Montana State-Northern.

“We’ve got a good mix of experience and youth, and a lot of great leaders that lead by example,” Booth said. “They’ve got a lot of heart and they’re going to wrestle a full match each time they go out there.”

NIC hosts Big Bend next Friday.
