ENDORSEMENT: Vote Knudtsen, Durbin, Havercroft

| October 25, 2024 1:00 AM

Ronald Reagan said, “The trouble with our Liberal friends is not that they’re ignorant; it’s just that they know so much that isn’t so.” Kootenai County is experiencing something similar except that it’s our KCRCC friends and not liberals that know so much that isn’t so. To be fair, the May 2024 precinct committeeman elections placed some 30 reasonable and principled Republicans on the KCRCC. While that’s progress, it’s not the majority. Thus, the KCRCC continues to promote information that just isn’t so and recommends candidates ready to act on said misinformation.

Principal targets of misinformation efforts are the NIC Board of Trustee races and Proposition 1 (open primaries and ranked-choice voting). For the former, the KCRCC wants you to believe that the same ideological approach (and even one of the individuals) demonstrably shown to be responsible for NIC’s accreditation problems will save it from oblivion. That is NOT common sense. As for the latter, the KCRCC has played its fearmongering card to promote the notion that Proposition 1 somehow undermines elections in a variety of ways despite the lack of supporting credible, data-driven evidence. My favorite is that RCV is too difficult for voters to do correctly. Would you take advice from an organization that thinks you are not smart enough to do something as simple as RCV? Again, that is NOT common sense.

Vote FOR Knudtsen, Havercroft and Durbin for NIC trustee and vote FOR Proposition 1. Make common sense great again.
