Hearing on Roosevelt Inn property pushed back

A public hearing scheduled Thursday on a proposed development for The Roosevelt Inn property has been delayed until next week.

Coeur d'Alene Community Planning Director Hilary Patterson said Blue Fern Management LLC based in Redmond, Wash., called the city Tuesday to request that the hearing with the Design Review Commission be rescheduled.

It is now set for noon Wednesday, Oct. 30, at City Hall.

She said Blue Fern wanted to amend one of the conditions placed on the project that protects the historic brick building that dates back to 1905 and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

"They want to preserve the building; they just want to rework the method for protection," Patterson said.

She said the change will still preserve the structure of the former Roosevelt School from alteration.

Blue Fern's proposal calls for a 38-unit townhome complex at 105 E. Wallace Ave. and 116 E. Garden Ave., a city report said. It includes a separate future parcel for the Roosevelt. Blue Fern hopes to later sell The Roosevelt Inn.

The condition in question was placed on the proposal by the city. It aims to protect The Roosevelt Inn through the Idaho State Historic Preservation Office's Historic Preservation Easement Program.
