MILESTONE BIRTHDAY

Richard 'Dick' Fedash

100th Birthday

Dick was born April 18, 1924, the oldest of three children in Streator, Ill. After his father passed, Dick was the head of the household for his mother and two younger siblings.

Dick owned and operated several businesses and property investments until his retirement in the 1980s. He moved to the area in 1981.

In his off time, Dick enjoyed snowmobiling, water skiing, boating and traveling. Dick traveled to many places all over the world. When traveling, Dick enjoyed visiting historical sites, buildings and museums.

Dick likes reading the newspaper, watching TV and discussing his many travel experiences.

"In our experience with Mr. Fedash, so far, him being here at Creekside Memory Care, he has one of the best personalities at 100 years old. Even at his stage of dementia, he is a funny guy and has a great memory. He makes most of us feel special at times by remembering our names if we came in the facility on a day off and not in our work attire with a name tag on.

"A few things about him are: He loves his cookies (specifically the oatmeal cookies with the iced frosting on the top from the Dollar Tree). His family would have to bring in three or four packs at a time because he always wants to have at least two cookies after every meal. He loves his milk with every meal as well. He will yell, 'Milk.' I can’t forget the back scratches he very clearly enjoyed when he would ask us to 'scratch his back.'

"Mr. Fedash was very musically inclined also. He played the drums, saxophone and piano. He was in a band in Wisconsin and played at a well-known place called, 'The Prom Ballroom.' He traveled around the world twice. He was a great businessman owning lots of property in Florida. One thing he loved to do was drive around his property on his tractor."
