Lorretta Kenny
Lorretta Gene (Galland), daughter of Clay and Gladys Galland, was born July 28, 1928, in Spearfish, S.D.
In the 1930s, when she was a child, her parents relocated to North Idaho. There, Loretta attended grade school in Coeur d’Alene and high school at Upper Columbia Academy in Spangle, Wash., during the academy’s opening year, where she made several lifelong friends. In her teen years, she also worked at Farragut Naval Base as a member of the kitchen staff. After working at the base, she became a cook in an Upper Pack River logging camp. While working at the camp, she met William Lewis Kenny. After their courtship, they were married in 1952 and lived in Hot Springs, Mont., for 10 years before moving to Kalispell.
Their children are Dennis Patrick Kenny (66), Sandra Kay (Kenny) Griswold — deceased, and Colleen Kelly (Kenny) Beierle (62).
After her husband, William, died, she moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, to be near family. She became a skilled healthcare aide and enjoyed her work until retiring. She remained in Coeur d’Alene until passing away. Her favorite activity and involvement was “family,” and she was always happiest whenever she could gather many of the family members together. Loretta was a lifelong member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, attending in Coeur d'Alene.
She is survived by her son, Dennis, and daughter Colleen; her brother, Harry Duane Galland (81); 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and “any others who needed a grandma.” Loretta was preceded in death by her parents, Clay and Gladys, brothers Davy and Alan, husband William and daughter Sandra.
