Erich Klan, 83

Erich Klan, 83, passed away peacefully in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, on Sept. 29, 2024. Born in Salzburgen, Germany, on Aug. 29, 1941, he was the youngest of five siblings. Throughout his life, he carried his adventurous spirit and deep love for his German heritage.

In the United States, Erich met his beloved wife, Olga Marina Martinez, on a blind date. Their marriage spanning over 60 years, blessed them with two children, Erich Karl Klan and Gina Michelle Klan, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Erich was a deeply patriotic American citizen who treasured his adopted country.

A skilled auto mechanic originally trained in Germany, his career began in Newfoundland, Canada, and later, he moved to California, where he opened repair shops in Newport Beach and Vista. 

Faith played a fundamental role in Erich’s life. He was a devout member of Hayden Bible Church in Hayden, Idaho. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding his actions and relationships.

He enjoyed life to its fullest. His hobbies included hunting, shooting, fishing, camping, hiking, gardening and woodworking. But above all things, he cherished spending time with his family.

Erich is survived by his wife, Olga Klan; his sister, Gisela (Mittrach) Klan; his children, Erich Klan and Gina (Olsen) Klan; his son-in-law, Tommy Olsen; his daughter-in-law, Tammy (Klan) Schulze; and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ludwig Klan and Lydia (Klan) Mangold, and his siblings, Herta (Wick) Klan, Gertrud (Wagner) Klan and Walter Klan.

A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, at Hayden Bible Church, 290 E. Miles Ave., Hayden, Idaho, at 2 p.m.

Erich's life was marked by his joyous spirit, his commitment to his family and faith, and his enduring kindness. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
