COEUR d'ALENE — Morgan Claus, a sophomore from Moscow High had 11 kills with no errors, and 16 digs for North Idaho College in a 25-18, 25-8, 25-15 Scenic West Athletic Conference victory over Colorado Northwestern at Christianson Gymnasium on Thursday.

"We knew Colorado Northwestern was going to get creative with their offense," NIC coach Drew Pascua said. "And it took until the middle of the first set to lock into their patterns, but once we did, we were in control the rest of the way."

Freshman Brecklan Weaver had 16 digs and freshman Annie Lewis eight kills for NIC (8-10, 3-3 SWAC), which hosts 11th-ranked Salt Lake on Saturday.

Colorado Northwestern is 1-18, 0-6.

COEUR d’ALENE — The breaks that the Cardinal men had received on the way to a 12-0-2 start bounced the other way for a change.

NIC, ranked 11th in this week’s NJCAA poll, fell behind 2-0 before a goal by freshman David Ochoa in the 43rd minute, but fell short for the first time this season in a loss to the Badgers at Eisenwinter Field.

“We had a lot of chances, hit the post in the first half and crossbar in the second half, but just couldn’t get over the hump,” NIC coach Brad Williams said. “We’re a little depleted right now injury-wise, but had our chances as well.”

NIC is without Lorian Arts, Akil Henry and Mohammed Fadel, who sat out a second straight match due to injury. Henry is out for the season with a torn ACL.

“If we had certain guys, we’d have a different look,” Williams said. “But we just had some unlucky breaks today.”

NIC (12-1-3, 7-1-3) hosts Utah State-Eastern on Saturday.

Snow, which received votes in this week’s NJCAA poll, is 10-3-0, 8-3-0. NIC beat the Badgers 4-0 in Ephraim on Sept. 19.

First half — 1, Snow, Jack Cook (unassisted), 22:00. 2, Snow, Nefthaly Loya Veronica (Cook), 40:45. 3, NIC, David Ochoa (Richard Bollanga), 43:16.

Shots on goal — Snow 6; NIC 2.

Saves — Snow, Mathias Christensen 1; NIC, Kael McGowan 4.

COEUR d’ALENE — The Cardinals were limited to one shot on goal in a Scenic West Athletic Conference loss to the fifth-ranked Badgers of Ephraim, Utah, at Eisenwinter Field.

“Snow is a very talented team,” NIC coach Kellsi Parson said. “They send a lot of numbers forward and did everything we expected them to do. I thought we played well and competed, but just couldn’t find a goal to save our lives.”

NIC (6-6-2, 5-5-1 SWAC) hosts Utah State-Eastern of Price, Utah on Saturday.

Snow (12-1-1, 9-1-1) defeated NIC 4-0 in their previous match in Ephraim on Sept. 19.

First half — 1, Snow, Emily Morrill (unassisted), 7:02. 2, Snow, Liv Harding (unassisted), 44:24. Second half — none.
