Richard Riggs, 65
Our fun, loving brother Richard (Dick) Dean Riggs passed away Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2024, at home. Richard was born Nov. 7, 1958, to Gerald and Lois Riggs in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. He was the third child born to Jerry and Lois. He had six siblings: David, Renee, Karen, Beverly, Jolee and Curtis.
Richard attended elementary through high school in Coeur d’Alene. He had many friends and was quite popular in school. Dick had a charming and charismatic way that drew people to him. He was funny, unselfish, caring and giving. He met a group of friends several times a week at Super 1 for breakfast, and they called themselves the “Breakfast Club.”
He was known for his mischievous tricks, once covering his sister, Karen, with leaves only to forget and ran her over with his bike on his way home. He also decided to play barber when he was 6 and gave his 4-year-old sister a haircut. He relentlessly picked on his sisters, Karen, Bev and Jolee. He was employed as a laborer in construction with his father and later with his brother-in-law at BMW Construction.
His grandmother, Mae, called him Carrot Top because of his fabulous red hair.
Richard met the love of his life and spent seven wonderful years together. During that time, they built a house and raised multiple dogs together. Sandy developed cancer and passed away in 1991. They were engaged to be married but never made it to the altar. He cherished the love they shared together and mourned her until the day he passed. He never had children of his own but was a loving uncle to his seven nieces and nephews and beloved dog Jasmine (Jazzy).
Richard is survived by his sisters, Renee Darby, Karen (Kyle) Beierle, Jolee (Jon) Wiedmaier, brother Curtis, nieces and nephews, Jonathon, Tony, Michaela, Michael, Cole, Sierra and several aunts, uncles, cousins, grandnieces and grandnephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Lois Riggs, fiancé Sandy, brother Dave, sister Beverly, brother-in-law Jon Snider, nephew Andrew and grandparents Laverne and Mae Rude, and James and Berniece Riggs.
He is going to be tremendously missed by all of his family and friends, but he will be reunited with the love of his life, Sandy, which will bring a smile to his face.
A ceremony will take place at the Church of Christ, located at Fourth and Hanley in Dalton on Monday, Oct. 21, at 3 p.m.
Bell Tower has been entrusted with final arrangements.
