POST FALLS — Sophomore midfielder Sierra Sheppard scored in the 41st minute for the Panthers in a victory over the third-seeded Badgers in the 4A District 1-2 championship match at The Fields.

“We knew that Bonners was going to give us everything they’ve got, and they did,” Coeur d’Alene Charter coach Stacy Smith said. “They were definitely our toughest fought game against a league opponent that we’d played all season. They have speed and talent in the middle of the field that kept us honest most of the game.”

It is the ninth-straight district title for Coeur d’Alene Charter (10-2-3), which advances to state starting next Thursday at The Fields. Bonners Ferry (10-8) moves into a state play-in match Saturday at Timberline High in Boise against American Falls.

Charter is currently 10th in the latest MaxPreps.com rankings, which are used to seed the state tournament. Final matchups will be released this weekend.

The match was delayed by a half hour due to lightning in the area just before halftime.

Senior Lydia Lehosit placed a free kick in front of the net, setting up Sheppard’s goal for Coeur d’Alene Charter.

“Lydia put the ball on the wet turf and the keeper had to make a play,” Smith said. “Sierra was in the right spot with the poise to handle the rebound and put the ball in the back of the net. I’m very proud of how our girls worked tonight. There was absolutely no quit in them. They played with passion, even when the ball wasn’t rolling our way.”
