POST FALLS — The fifth-seeded St. Maries Lumberjacks took the fourth-seeded Grangeville Bulldogs to overtime and beyond, falling 2-0 in a shootout Monday on the first day of the 4A District 1-2 girls soccer tournament at The Fields at Real Life.

Grangeville (6-5-1) advances to play top-seeded Coeur d’Alene Charter (8-2-3) today in the semifinals at 11 a.m.

St. Maries’ girls finished 1-9-1.

“This district game was a fun one to watch,” St. Maries coach Amber Morris said. “Our girls showed up today ready to play. They put their whole heart and soul into this game. Unfortunately, the outcome was not a win, but these girls left it all on the field.”

Morris praised her seniors, including:

“Tiffany Bell, who played as a midfielder. She has became such a strong player over this last year,” Morris said. “Jada Barden, who I have put in almost every position on the field, but this year found her home as one of my attacking forwards. Liara Sullivan, this girl is a force on the field. She dribbles through most players making them look like they are just standing there. She is a defensive player and holds a very strong line.”

In the other first-round game, third-seeded Bonners Ferry beat sixth-seeded Priest River 6-0.

Bonners Ferry (9-7-0) will face second-seeded Timberlake (10-2-2) in a semifinal today at 1 p.m.

Priest River finished 0-12-1.
