Ron and Janine Porter

60th Anniversary

Ron and Janine Porter celebrated their 60th anniversary with a cruise on Lake Coeur d'Alene on Oct. 5 with family and friends. 

They were married Oct. 3, 1964, at the Christian Church in Nezperce, Idaho, where Janine Eller was raised. They met at the Nezperce Hotel Cafe where Janine waited tables and Ron and other road construction workers were staying while re-building the road south of Nezperce through Lawyers Canyon.  

The first 10 years of their marriage they moved over 20 times to the next "road construction job." When their two children, Michael and Michele, started school, they decided it was time to find a permanent home. They moved to Coeur d'Alene in 1972 from Mullan, Idaho. In 1974, they moved into their newly built home where they remain today.  

Ron helped build many of the highways we travel on today in North Idaho, Washington and Montana. When the two pieces of equipment went into Lake Coeur d'Alene at Higgens Point, Ron had been standing next to the equipment moments before. Ron retired in 2008.  

Janine worked in the law office of Sue Flammia and Anne Solomon for 17 years. She enjoyed her job but retired to devote more time to her passion for doing genealogy research.  

They had two children. Their son Michael sadly passed away in 1989. Their family line continues on with their daughter, Michele (Ted) Demery; three grandchildren, Todd (Savannah) Demery, Jeff (Devon) Demery and Jessie Demery (Carlie Scoper); and four great-grandchildren: Wyatt and Ella Demery, and Dawson and Vinny Demery.  

Their 60 years together have been filled with love, heartache and joy with family and friends.
