Dress in character Oct. 19 for WalkRunRead 5K

| October 12, 2024 1:05 AM

The Literacy Project of North Idaho will host its third annual WalkRunRead 5K from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, in Coeur d'Alene City Park.

This year’s event invites participants to embrace their favorite literary characters or authors by running or walking the race in costume. Whether participants are dressed like they stepped out of a Jane Austen novel, are channeling their inner Hermione Granger or want to become Peter Pan for the day, they can show off their bookish sides during a fun and festive day, a press release said.

In addition to the 5K along the North Idaho Centennial Trail, the event will feature a kids dash and book swap/sale.

Proceeds will support the Literacy Project of North Idaho’s literacy programs, including free low-literacy tutoring and English as a second language classes for the North Idaho community.

“We are so excited to bring back WalkRunRead for its third year,” Literacy Project North Idaho founder and Executive Director Kat Gilmore said in the news release.

“This event is a fantastic way to raise awareness of adult literacy needs in our community, raise money for our programs and have a great day outside with the community," she said. "We encourage everyone to come out, dress up in their favorite costumes and help us celebrate the power of reading.”

The Literacy Project of North Idaho is a nonprofit dedicated to promoting literacy. It provides free literacy programs, including low-literacy and ESL classes and tutoring.

Registration for the 5K is $30 and includes a shirt. The kids dash is $10 and includes a medal.
