PREP VOLLEYBALL: Lake City clinches No. 2 seed to districts

| October 11, 2024 1:20 AM

COEUR d’ALENE — After notching a reverse sweep at Post Falls three weeks ago, the Lake City Timberwolves fended off a bid for a reverse sweep by the Trojans on Thursday night to wrap up the No. 2 seed to the 6A District 1 tournament.

Senior Jess Wilson had 23 kills and 12 digs as Lake City held off Post Falls 25-19, 25-21, 19-25, 17-25, 15-12 on senior night for the Timberwolves.

Camryn Woodman added nine kills, nine digs and four aces for Lake City (17-10, 5-3 IEL). Taylor Winey had 36 assists and three aces, Lola Jeanselme 23 digs for the T-Wolves.

“Going into set 3, we knew that we had no room to be comfortable because Post Falls would be coming after us and they did,” Lake City coach Michelle Kleinberg said. “Their hustle was really tough to beat tonight. In true senior night fashion, our seniors came through in key moments, most notably Josie Hocking closing out the match with a stellar block. All of our seniors contributed in a big way, including Daphne (Neeley, lost recently to a season-ending knee injury) from the bench. We had Camryn and Emmery (Fuller) in foreign roles most of the night (Emmery in middle, Camryn as an outside hitter) and they really stepped up. It was a stressful win, but an encouraging one as we look ahead to districts.”

Trinity Byrne had 16 kills for Post Falls (14-9, 3-4). Vanessa Kison added 11 kills and four aces, Tiffany Foxx eight blocks, Lexi Norisada 21 digs.

Post Falls plays host to Lewiston and Mt. Spokane on Saturday to wrap up the regular season.

Lake City travels to Lakeland on Tuesday in the T-Wolves' regular-season finale.

Next Thursday, Post Falls travels to Lake City for a loser-out match in the 6A district tourney. The winner plays at top seed Coeur d’Alene on Oct. 19 in the first match of a best-of-3 series for the district title.
