JEROME — You always want to get a good result against your rival.

Thursday was that day for North Idaho College.

Freshman Ismael Mane scored in the sixth minute, then Daniel Lehman Jr., added a goal in the 32nd for the Cardinals, who beat in-state rival College of Southern Idaho 2-1 in a Scenic West Athletic Conference match at Jerome High.

“It was a good match for us,” NIC coach Brad Williams said. “We’re glad to go in and get the win in a rivalry game like this.”

NIC beat CSI 3-1 in the first match between the schools on Sept. 12 in Coeur d’Alene.

“We pressed hard and had to do a lot of defensive work today,” Williams said. “We had some good chances in front of the goal. We had a lot of good looks, and the boys fought hard. I’m proud of the boys for coming out on top there.”

CSI sophomore Guillermo Perez received a red card after spitting on an NIC player in the 72nd minute. Perez will miss, at least one match, according to Williams for the ejection.

NIC, which climbed to 13th from 16th in this week’s NJCAA poll, got three saves from Kael McGowan, a sophomore from Post Falls High.

NIC (12-0-2, 7-0-2 SWAC) travels to Truckee Meadows of Reno, Nev., on Saturday.
