PREP ROUNDUP: Lakeland girls move past Post Falls

| October 10, 2024 1:20 AM

• GIRLS SOCCER

RATHDRUM — The Hawks kept it moving in the first half.

But they really did it in the second half.

Lakeland, which led 2-0 at halftime, scored three second half goals to beat the visiting Post Falls Trojans 5-2 in a 5A Region 1 loser-out girls soccer match at Sunrise Rotary Field on Wednesday.

“Our ball movement was good, especially in the second half,” said Lakeland coach Kevin Rogge, whose team had 13 shots on goal in the second half. “We moved the ball well and got a lot of one-touches along the sideline, which is what we needed. The girls really came together and played well as a team. They wanted it, and they took it.”

Lakeland defeated Post Falls 6-1 on Aug. 29 in Post Falls, then tied the Trojans 2-2 at home on Sept. 19.

Lakeland (8-6-1) travels to top-seeded Lewiston on Saturday for a semifinal game.

“I told the girls we’ve had a lot of accomplishments this season with beating Moscow and Coeur d’Alene,” said Rogge, in his fourth season as coach. “It’s our first regional win and it’s been a fun year. I’m really proud of the girls.”

Post Falls, which petitioned down to the 5A classification in boys and girls soccer only this season, finishes 1-12-1.
