PROP 1: It makes no sense

| October 9, 2024 1:00 AM

Proposition 1 boils down to this. Those supporting it won’t affiliate with the official Republican party because they disagree with its platform, values and vision.

For the last couple of decades, it’s abundantly clear that a strong majority of Kootenai voters DO support the Republican party. It would take an archaeologist to find the last case of a Democrat winning any race of consequence here.

Despite this overwhelming Republican mandate, and admitting their own misalignment to the Republican party, Proposition 1 supporters somehow still feel entitled to a voice in the Republican primary.

It makes no sense. In sports you don’t get to pick the starting lineup of the opposing team. Why should you get to choose the opposing party’s candidates? This warped sense of entitlement can be traced to two sources.

First, are the so-called independent voters. In reality, they are just Democrats that are too embarrassed to publicly admit they are Democrats, a lack of integrity that is nauseating. If you’re truly an independent voter, why not vote for an independent candidate instead of demanding to monkeywrench the Republican primary.

The second source are disaffected, past Republican primary loser candidates. This group is so overwhelmed by hubris and ego, they can’t admit they lost because their politics no longer align with the majority of Republican voters. Like impetuous children losing a board game, they now demand to change the rules. Officially known as the North Idaho Republicans, the Sour Grapes Club might be a more fitting name. Their membership is a list of irrelevant names from yesteryear. Their refusal to let go is as cringe-worthy as Biden’s.
