PREP VOLLEYBALL: Lakeland welcomes back Munyer with sweep at Sandpoint

SANDPOINT — Junior Alyssa Ryckman had 14 kills as the visiting Lakeland Hawks swept the Sandpoint Bulldogs 25-9, 25-18, 25-15 in Inland Empire League play Tuesday at Les Rogers Court.  

Landree Simon added 11 kills and 10 digs for Lakeland (15-10, 5-2 IEL). Olivia Zazuetta had 32 assists, Addy Jo Hocking 10 digs, Chloe Neff three aces. 

Ziya Munyer, the Weber State commit who has been out for nearly a month with a knee injury, played in two sets and totaled five kills and five blocks for the Hawks. 

"It was all about communication and rhythm tonight,” Lakeland coach Kelsie Badger said. “We really focused on playing together, and having Ziya back on the court helped set the tone for everyone. It was a true team effort. Alyssa delivered an outstanding performance, and Ziya made her presence felt at the net. Addy and Landree were crucial (on defense). Liv’s decision-making was on full display.” 

Sandpoint dropped to 6-17, 0-8. 

Lakeland plays host to Lewiston, currently second among the four 5A teams in the combined 6A/5A IEL, on Thursday.


Coeur d’Alene d. 

Lewiston 

COEUR d’ALENE — Junior Gianna Callari had six kills, three blocks and three aces, and senior Aiva Reed had seven kills and two blocks as the host Vikings swept the Bengals 25-16, 25-23, 25-22 in IEL play at Viking Court. 

“Aiva and Gianna controlled the middle,” Coeur d’Alene coach Carly Curtis said. “They did a good job getting to the pins and closing the block. They were a big force in the middle, forcing Lewiston to tip and re-direct.” 

Paisley Goings added 10 kills, three blocks and three aces for Coeur d’Alene (23-6, 8-0), which has already wrapped up the league title and the No. 1 seed to the 6A Region 1 tournament. Gracie Legg had 16 digs, Camryn Farrar eight digs. Lizzy Hardy had 16 assists, Bevin Green six, Hannah Shafer five. 

“Paisley had a solid performance, with aggressive swinging and consistent ball control,” Curtis said. “Gracie did an amazing job of reading the tip and handling hard-driven balls. We played great defense, and our setters did a good job adjusting to Lewiston’s block.” 

Lewiston is 14-5, 2-3. 

Coeur d’Alene wraps up the regular season Thursday at Moscow in a nonleague match. 


Priest River d. 

Timberlake 

SPIRIT LAKE — The visiting Spartans won the final two sets to claim a 25-17, 15-25, 23-25, 25-22, 15-13 victory over the Tigers in nonleague play. 

Junior Amarijana Oliveri had 16 kills and 17 digs for Timberlake (10-7). Addie Archer had eight aces and 15 digs, Isabelle Torr 20 digs, Sophia Soumas 19 assists, Mya Reynoldson and Shae Jones five blocks each. 

Priest River is 8-5. 

Timberlake travels to Bonners Ferry on Thursday for the first of two Intermountain League matches between the only two volleyball-playing schools in the IML.

Bonners Ferry 

KELLOGG — Senior Ragen Oertli had 12 assists and two aces for the Wildcats in a 25-23, 25-23, 18-25, 26-24 nonleague win over the Badgers at Andrews Gymnasium. 

Junior Dani Henrikson had eight kills, sophomore Paige Yrjana eight kills, sophomore Dakota Hoch two aces, senior Aubree Groth five blocks and sophomore Jordyn Stutzke 24 digs for Kellogg (16-7), which hosts Grangeville in a Central Idaho League match on Thursday. 

Bonners Ferry (9-8) hosts Timberlake on Thursday in the first of two Intermountain League matches between the only two teams in the league in volleyball.


Genesis Prep d. 

Clark Fork 

POST FALLS — Senior Madi Cooper had six kills, three digs and three aces as the host Jaguars completed an undefeated run through the Scenic Idaho Conference with a 25-13, 25-8, 25-10 victory over the Wampus Cats on senior night at The Courts at Real Life. 

Senior Ella Martin added eight aces and three kills for Genesis Prep (9-8, 6-0 SIC). Senior Laya Daniels had five kills and three blocks, senior Pearl Covey 11 digs and two aces.  

"It was bittersweet to celebrate our nine amazing seniors,” Genesis Prep coach Paula Thurston said. “Winning tonight was incredible for the team, making us undefeated league champs. I'm so proud of this team and how far we've come.” 

Clark Fork is 4-11, 0-6. 

Genesis Prep travels to St. Maries tonight at 7.

Lakeside

WALLACE — Bethany Phillips had 19 kills and three blocks, Kayla Hasz seven kills and two blocks for the Miners in a 25-21, 25-27, 25-14, 23-25, 15-8 Scenic Idaho Conference win over the Knights at Kirby Krulitz Court. 

Kylee Phillips had 31 digs and six kills, Aubrey Birdsell 24 assists and 20 digs for Wallace (11-7, 3-3 SIC), which travels to St. Regis, Mont., tonight. 

Lakeside (6-4, 3-3) competes in a tri-match with Deary and Genesee on Thursday. 


Coeur du Christ d. 

Mullan 

MULLAN — Junior Maddie Junkin had 11 aces and five blocks as the visiting Saints, in their first season as a full member of the Idaho High School Activities Association, wrapped up a perfect North Star League season with a 25-14, 23-25, 25-13, 25-20 victory over the Tigers at the Mullan Pavilion. 

Josie Zepeda and Lucy Ross each had eight kills for Coeur du Christ (7-5, 4-0 NSL). 

“We had a number of girls out sick again, so I am very proud of how our girls really came together and fought in this game,” Coeur du Christ coach Natalie Kiefer said. “We saw some exceptional serving from Madeline.”   

Coeur du Christ is home vs. Genesis Prep on Thursday at Holy Family Catholic School in Coeur d’Alene to wrap up the regular season. 

Mullan (1-8, 0-4) wraps up the regular season Thursday at home vs. Wallace.
