Police are investigating after a vehicle hit a 10-year-old student Monday morning at the intersection of Greensferry and 16th Avenue in Post Falls.

The student was walking northbound on Greensferry and entered the intersection to cross 16th Avenue, which does not have a crosswalk, when the vehicle hit the student, according to a news release.

The driver was traveling eastbound and told police they did not see the student because the sun was obstructing their vision.

The student sustained an injury to the leg and was transported to Kootenai Health for treatment.

“The Post Falls Police Department would like to remind the public to always be mindful of bicyclists and pedestrians, but especially in and around school zones,” a news release said. “Drivers tend to watch for other vehicular traffic, but in many instances, including the one this morning, drivers need to remember they share the road with pedestrians and bicyclists.”
