ABORTION: Choose life instead
In a recent Opinion piece, Evan Koch, chairman of the Kootenai County Democratic Party, takes on the role of an apologist for the multi-billion dollar abortion industry. He states that abortion is a “life saving procedure designed to protect a woman’s future.” To which woman is he referring? If the unborn baby is female, then her life is coming to an abrupt end. If to the mother, he did a poor job explaining how carrying a baby to full term imperils her future.
He did try to make the case of a situation where a pregnancy threatened the life of a mother. What he didn’t mention was that these types of cases are extremely rare, in fact less than 2% of all pregnancies according to the data. This is a logical fallacy where one attempts to use an extreme example to justify an action. Many women are forced into abortion by the father of the baby, who doesn’t want the responsibility of raising a child, or family members who believe they are doing her a favor.
Mr. Koch then launched into a rant about Mifepristone, a chemical that ends pregnancy. This is a very dangerous drug with serious side effects. In many states, it is given to women to take home with no medical oversight, which I would call malfeasance. At least he has the honesty to refer to the deceased baby as a “child” whose loss can be mourned.
It is unfortunate that the Democratic Party has become a megaphone for ideologies that are proven to be insidious to the well-being of our culture. Let’s reject their siren call and choose life instead.
