COEUR d’ALENE — Coeur d’Alene senior Grant Potter, who has verballed to Boise State, shot a 1-under-par 71 to earn boys medalist honors in the 6A District 1 tournament on Thursday at Coeur d’Alene Golf Club.

Potter also was district tourney medalist during the spring and fall seasons in 2022.

Coeur d'Alene shot 303 to win by 25 strokes. The Vikings also had the top three finishers, as Ben Focke and Hunter Paquin tied for second with 74s.

Only the regional champion, and top three individual finishers, advance to the state 6A tournament at Highland Golf Course in Pocatello on Oct. 11-12.

Coeur d’Alene freshman Ella Wilson shot a 77 to earn girls medalist as the Vikings won easily with a 333.

Coeur d'Alene also went 1-2-3 in the girls tourney, with Mady Riley second and Sophia Vignale third.

"Our kids were outstanding today and we look to keep it rolling into state next week," Coeur d'Alene girls golf coach Jeff Lake said. "We are locked in, and ready to compete down at state. We're excited for the opportunity to represent North Idaho."

“A huge thanks from District 1 and Lake City High golf to Mike Elmore, Jim Colliflower and Spencer Skipper at Coeur d’Alene Golf Club for treating us great all season long,” Lake City boys golf coach Kelly Reed said. “All schools get to play for free and they don’t charge us for tournaments, and they treated us unbelievably well all season. Everyone at the course was awesome.”

Lake City’s boys, which tied for seventh at state last year, did not qualify as the district tourney went from four teams to three this season, with Lewiston dropping to the 5A classification this year.

“We just didn’t play our best today, which is unfortunate, but happens sometimes,” Reed said. “There’s just a different pressure at regionals and state. I feel bad for the guys because we’d played so well all season, but it’s part of the deal sometimes.”
