PREP VOLLEYBALL: Coeur d'Alene, Genesis Prep clinch league titles

POST FALLS — Junior Gianna Callari had 13 kills and two blocks as the Coeur d’Alene Vikings wrapped up the Inland Empire League title Tuesday night, sweeping the Post Falls Trojans 25-25, 25-15, 25-19 in the Volleyball 4 the Cure match for cancer awareness at The Arena. 

Paisley Goings added 10 digs, five kills and two aces for Coeur d’Alene (22-6, 7-0 IEL), which also clinched the top seed to the 6A District 1 tournament, and a bye into the best-of-3 championship series. 

Kaylee Paulson had nine kills for the Vikings, Gracie Legg 14 digs, Lizzy Hardy nine assists and three aces, Camryn Farrar 10 digs, Hannah Shafer 13 assists, Kaydence Green two blocks. 

“Every player contributed their unique strengths, fueling our momentum to achieve success on the court,” Coeur d’Alene coach Carly Curtis said. “Our setters did an amazing job of moving the ball around and adjusting to the block.”

Vanessa Kison had 14 kills and nine digs for Post Falls (13-8, 3-3). Trinity Byrne added eight kills, Lucy Carr 15 assists, Zuri Blood 14 assists, Lexi Norisada 12 digs, Summer Dan four blocks, Tiffany Foxx two blocks. 

“Coeur d’Alene is a talented team and when we made mistakes they capitalized on them,” Post Falls coach Matt Barkley said. “We battled back a few times but couldn’t quite keep the momentum going.  

“While the loss was tough, I’m so happy the way our school and community showed up tonight. The funds raised will make a difference for families battling cancer. We raised around $1,100 from raffle tickets sales and additional proceeds from the gate will all go to support the Susan G. Komen Foundation and the Kootenai Health Patient Fund.” 

Post Falls plays host to Central Valley on Saturday. 

Coeur d’Alene returns to action next Tuesday at home vs. Lewiston.

Lake City 

LEWISTON — Camryn Woodman had seven kills and five blocks for the Timberwolves in a 34-32, 23-25, 27-25, 25-20 nonleague loss to the Bengals at Lewiston High. 

“It was not a strong night for us mentally,” Lake City coach Michelle Kleinberg said. “Lewiston played tough at home, as expected, and we just had some tight sets that didn’t go our way. It’s unfortunate, but we’re back to work tomorrow to prepare for some great opportunities this coming weekend.” 

Jess Wilson had 12 kills, 18 digs and three blocks, Daphne Neeley 32 digs and Taylor Winey 36 assists for Lake City (15-6), which competes in the Rocky Mountain tournament in Meridian on Friday and Saturday. 

Lewiston is 15-3.

Kellogg 

SPIRIT LAKE — Amarijana Olivieri had eight kills and 19 digs as the host Tigers won the final two sets to beat the Wildcats 20-25, 25-20, 21-25, 26-24, 15-10 in nonleague play.  

Diana Nelson had 11 blocks for Timberlake (9-6). Sophia Soumas had 33 assists, Maci Sandbank nine kills and four blocks, Mya Reynoldson eight kills, five blocks and two aces, Isabelle Torr 23 digs, Addie Archer 21 digs. 

“It was nice to win that fifth set tonight,” Timberlake coach Lisa Gardom said. “We have battled a few teams this season going to five sets and tonight we did the work to the end and came out on top. Kellogg is a scrappy team and they make you earn your points. I’m proud of the team for not giving up and finishing strong.” 

Dani Hendrikson had nine kills, Callie Clark three blocks, Jordyn Stutzke 26 digs and Ella Yrjana 17 assists and three aces for Kellogg (14-7), which faces Wallace tonight at Kirby Krulitz Court in the annual Dig Pink match.

Timberlake travels to Riverside on Thursday.

St. Maries 

GRANGEVILLE — The visiting Lumberjacks fell to the Bulldogs 27-25, 25-21, 25-20 in Central Idaho League play. 

Mia Asbury had 17 kills and six assists for St. Maries (5-13, 0-7 CIL). Brenna Elliott had 23 assists and two aces, Raevyn Yearout five kills, Allie Zook 14 digs. 

Grangeville is 4-5, 3-2. 

St. Maries travels to Logos on Thursday. 


Genesis Prep d.  

Lakeside 

POST FALLS — The host Jaguars clinched their first league volleyball championship in school history, sweeping the Knights 25-13, 25-8, 25-23 in Scenic Idaho Conference play at The Courts at Real Life. 

Kennedy Prendergast had four kills, five blocks, two aces, 20 assists and three digs for Genesis Prep (7-7, 5-0 SIC). Pearl Covey had 15 digs and four aces, Sienna Williams five kills and four blocks, Madi Cooper five digs, five kills and two aces, Laya Daniels five kills, five blocks and three digs, Ella Martin seven kills, three aces and three digs, Kinzie Lawler three kills and seven aces. 

“Tonight was amazing,” Genesis Prep coach Paula Thurston said. “The girls have earned everything they're getting, and I can't wait to see what else we can do this season. Lakeside is never an easy opponent. Our serving was on point tonight, so that helped keep them out of system most of the night. It was definitely a fun team win.” 

Lakeside (6-2, 3-2) plays host to Kootenai on Thursday. 

Genesis Prep plays host to Kellogg on Saturday.

COEUR d’ALENE — Senior Lucy Ross had 10 kills as the host Saints defeated the Wampus Cats 25-12, 25-23, 24-26, 25-13 in nonleague play at Holy Family Catholic School. 

Kate Clemens had 10 assists and seven aces, and Madeline Junkin added three blocks for Coeur du Christ (6-4), which plays host to Wallace on Thursday. 

Clark Fork is 2-10.
