PREP GOLF: Berend, Cd'A boys win at Kraus Invitational

HAYDEN LAKE — Post Falls sophomore Karl Berend shot a 6-over 78 to earn boys medalist honors in the Jim Kraus Invitational at Avondale Golf Club on Tuesday. 

“I’m really proud of these young players,” Post Falls coach Steve Mills said. “Karl getting his second win and freshman Jaeson (Walker) tied with several others for third, which was nice to see.”

Coeur d’Alene, missing four of its normal varsity players due to either illness or injury, won the team title with a 324. 

“Our guys really stepped up and finished the season strong today,” Coeur d’Alene boys golf coach Chase Bennett said. “Avondale, always a challenging and well-manicured course, played a little more difficult today as I had players play from the tip tees today to prepare the field for districts and a possible state run.” 

The 6A (formerly 5A) District 1 tournament is Thursday at Coeur d’Alene Golf Club. 

The 5A (forrmerly 4A) Region 1 tournament is Thursday at The Links Golf Club in Post Falls.
