NIC GOLF: Cardinal women finish third in fall opener in Oregon

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. — North Idaho College freshman Alyssa Butterfus shot a 7-over 151 to finish third in the women’s season-opening Run-In at the Ranch at the Arnold Palmer Signature Course at the Running Y Resort on Tuesday. 

NIC finished with a 313-317—630.  

NAIA Oregon Tech of Klamath Falls won the tournament with a two-round total of 301-309—610. 

NIC competes in the Sam Proal Invitational in Pueblo, Colo., starting Sunday.

Cardinal men seventh at 

Division II Western Washington invite


BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Freshman Mason Barmingham shot a 3-under-par 213 to finish tied for 11th in the Western Washington Invitational, which concluded on Tuesday at Bellingham Golf and Country Club. 

NIC finished seventh with an 870. 

Xavier Bighaus of Colorado Christian was the medalist with a 13-under 213, leading the Division II Cougars of Lakewood, Colo., to the team title with an 827. 

"It was a tough field this week with Colorado Christian being the No. 1 team in the country who won a (Division II) national championship last year," NIC men's golf coach Russell Grove said. "But it gives us something to work toward in where we need to be."

NIC will compete in the Brairwood Shootout at Brairwood Country Club in Billings, Mont., starting Sunday.
