William 'Bill' Agte, 62
William “Bill” Agte passed away at home Nov. 13, 2024, from metastatic cancer. He was born to Roger and Lois Agte on Dec. 28, 1961, in Spokane, Wash., the third of four children.
The family lived in Spokane until 1973 when they moved to Portland, Ore., for five months before coming to Coeur d’Alene, where his parents took over the Coeur d’Alene Livestock auction yards.
Bill worked at the yards through high school and off and on after. He worked at Keystone Lighting, the Coeur d’Alene Press mail room, and Buck Knives. The Press job was best suited to his night owl tendencies.
A voracious reader for most of his life, Bill leaned toward science fiction and fantasy novels; J.R.R. Tolken’s books were favorites from an early age, which he reread multiple times. He could tell every scene in the movies that strayed from the original stories.
Bill also enjoyed fishing, camping, hiking and video games. He began going to Spokane with his dad to play poker, continuing after Roger was unable to go any more. Occasionally Bill went with him to Hermiston, Ore., for tournaments.
Bill is survived by his brother, Kevin (Pam) Agte; sisters Rita (Mike) Michalak and Tami Agte (Rich Hazelton); nine nieces and nephews; six grandnieces and nephews and a great-grandnephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Lois.
We want to thank Hospice of North Idaho and the caregivers from Home Instead for their care of Bill. And a special thanks to his roommate, Ron Phillips, for his assistance and care of Bill for the last couple of years.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Hospice of North Idaho at www.hospiceofnorthidaho.org.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, 2024, at Yates Funeral Home — Hayden Chapel (373 E. Hayden Ave., Hayden, ID 83835). Please visit Bill’s online memorial and sign his guestbook at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
