Smelterville standoff ends peacefully
SMELTERVILLE — A standoff between law enforcement and a Silver Valley man ended peacefully Wednesday afternoon.
Ryan Gaddy was taken into police custody for allegedly making threatening statements to law enforcement over the phone and on social media.
The Shoshone County Sheriff's Office, Pinehurst Police, and Shoshone County Fire District No. 2 responded to the residence after receiving a call from a person there.
After the initial contact between Gaddy and law enforcement, Gaddy allegedly posted on his Facebook page that he was, "currently in a standoff with the Shoshone County Sheriff's Office. This only ends one way." He allegedly later commented on the post that, "Anyone who enters will be assaulted until I am dead."
An adult female and two juveniles were in the residence with Gaddy, and they were eventually able to leave, police said.
Gaddy later surrendered to law enforcement without incident and was taken to a local medical facility for treatment for a prior condition.
"We're thankful that this ended peacefully," SCSO Captain Seth Green said. "This is a positive reflection of the countless hours of training our deputies and other area agencies receive."
