The North Idaho College wrestling team volunteered to help distribute more than 2,000 frozen turkeys to families in need in a drive-thru turkey giveaway on Friday at Unity Church in Coeur d’Alene.

Families drove through the Unity Church parking lot while volunteers assisted in directing traffic, checking people in, and handing out turkeys and flowers. NIC wrestling coach Derrick Booth said his team volunteered for the drive-thru to give back to the community and help those in need.

"I’m really proud of our guys for the willingness to help out,” Booth said. “We consider it an honor to give back and make a positive impact in our community.”

The event was organized by the non-profit organization Turkeys and More with the goal of ensuring every family in North Idaho can enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner regardless of financial status. Other volunteers included The Coeur Group, members of Unity Church, and volunteer board members of Turkeys and More.

“There were a lot of smiling faces out there,” Booth said. “And we’re happy we could help make a difference.”
