NIC WRESTLING: NIC frosh Sullivan second at Spokane Open

SPOKANE — North Idaho College freshman Joe Sullivan was the top local finisher, taking runner-up at 149 pounds in the men’s Spokane Open at The Podium on Sunday. 

Sullivan, from Tahoma High in Maple Valley, Wash., lost via pin to Izzy Acosta, an unattached competitor in the finals. 

Jackson Lougen (fourth at 184) and Beau Mares (fifth at 174) also placed for NIC. 

Ryan Graves, a junior from Post Falls High and NIC, now wrestling for Montana State-Northern in Havre, Mont., was fifth at 165. Jose Laguna, wrestling unattached, won at 184.

Alyssa Randles, a sophomore from Coeur d’Alene High, was runner-up at 131 in the women’s Open.

Randles, who competes at NAIA University of Providence in Great Falls, won twice via technical fall to advance to the finals, where she lost to Carolina Moreno of Southern Oregon.
