COLLEGE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Ejim doubles up as Gonzaga downs New Mexico

Yvonne Ejim had 26 points, 17 rebounds and eight assists — her 29th double-double — to help lead Gonzaga to an 81-68 victory over New Mexico on Sunday before 4,943 at The Pit in Albuquerque, N.M. 

Maud Huijbens added 15 points, six rebounds and five assists for Gonzaga (4-2). Ines Bettencourt also had 16 points after 4 of 8 3-pointers. 

GU dominated the glass, 46-28. 

Gonzaga travels to the Virgin Islands this Thursday to play in the Paradise Jam tournament. The Zags open against Missouri State, followed by games against Texas Tech and Florida State. 

New Mexico is 3-3. 

Iowa 72, Washington State 43: At Iowa City, Iowa, Tara Wallack had 11 points and seven rebounds for the Cougars (2-3) against the Hawkeyes (6-0), who played in the last two national championship games, before 14,998 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. 

Jenna Villa had 11 points for WSU. 

Lucy Olsen scored 17 points for Iowa (6-0). 

WSU heads down to Puerto Rico for the 2024 Discover Puerto Rico Shootout where the Cougars will open against Norfolk State on Thursday at 1 p.m. PST. 

Hawaii 67, Eastern Washington 55: At Honolulu, Hawaii, Peyton Howard had 14 points and nine rebounds for the Eagles (1-5) in a loss to the Rainbow Warriors (3-1) in the Bank of Hawaii Classic in front of 1,744 at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Brooklyn Rewers, a senior from Lake City High, had nine points and seven rebounds in 15 minutes for Hawaii, which scored 36 points in the paint.

Eastern returns home to face Cal State Bakersfield on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
