College men's basketball: Idaho upended by San Diego

SAN DIEGO — Kolton Mitchell, a redshirt freshman from Lake City High, had a team-high 13 points, but the Idaho Vandals fell 68-61 to San Diego on Sunday before 507 at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
Mitchell hit two 3-pointers and also had three assists and two steals for Idaho (2-5). Kristian Gonzalez added 12 points for Idaho. Jack Payne also recorded nine points and six rebounds.
Julius Mims, the North Idaho College transfer, had eight points, five rebounds and two blocked shots.
In the second, the Vandals were within one possession in the final 30 seconds but a 5-0 run by San Diego (2-4) ended any chance for a Vandal comeback.
San Diego's Santiago Trouet played hero in the final minute, draining a 3-pointer and knocking down a pair of free throws to cap off a career-high 18 points.
Deven Dahlke added 15 points, Steven Jamerson II 12 for San Diego.
San Diego entered halftime up 26-25. San Diego used a 9-0 second-half run to erase a one-point deficit and put the Toreros up 38-30 with 15:34 left in the half. Dahlke scored all 15 of his points in the second half.
Idaho plays host to UC Riverside on Saturday.
