LIBRARIES: Is this what voters wanted?
At the Community Library Network Board meeting in Athol on Nov. 21, the board members decided to choose Tony Ambrosetti to be the new trustee. Ambrosetti is far less qualified than Michelle Lippert, the candidate proposed by Trustee Vanessa Robinson.
Why did the board choose Ambrosetti? Because he is religiously and ideologically suited to their agenda. Lippert is far more qualified than any trustee currently on the board, but she is not like-minded. Rather, she is open minded.
In my public comment at the meeting, I suggested that it would behoove the board to appoint a trustee with a more diverse, secular viewpoint to represent and give a voice to the broader community. It would have been a more fair and balanced representation of the diversity in our population.
Is extreme conservatism and narrowmindedness what the voters really wanted?
