'Superhero' parade is Friday

| November 24, 2024 1:07 AM

The Coeur d’Alene Downtown Association's 32nd annual Lighting Ceremony Parade is set for 5 p.m. Friday.

It will feature more than 40 entries, including Santa Claus, floats, music and dancers. The theme, "A Super Holiday,” will see superheroes celebrating the beginning of the Christmas shopping season.

"From villains to sidekicks in a Santa hat, even superheroes celebrate in the Holiday spirit," a press release said.

This year’s grand marshal is Miss Idaho USA, Kaitlyn Widmyer of Coeur d’Alene. She is the director of community outreach for Marmalade Fresh Clothing, a downtown boutique, and is an advocate for the Made in Kindness Foundation.

The parade runs down Sherman Avenue, starting at Eighth Street and finishing at the intersection of Government Way and Northwest Boulevard. Awards include "Best Lights" and "Best Use of Theme."

The Coeur d'Alene Downtown Association will also launch Elf on the Shelf on Friday.

Santa’s elves will be hiding in downtown businesses every Friday, Saturday and Sunday during business hours. Find an elf and get a stamp on your passport. The more elves you find, the better chance you have to win gift cards from participating businesses.

Find more than 10 elves to be entered into grand prize drawings for a Gonzaga game and a $300 shopping spree to Figpickels Toy Emporium.
