Cardinal wrestling returns

home for Clackamas tonight


North Idaho College, the top-ranked team in the NJCAA’s Preseason Poll, returns home tonight to face rival and fifth-ranked Clackamas at Christianson Gymnasium starting at 6 p.m. 

Sophomore Elijah Cater is ranked second nationally at 125 pounds for NIC. Ane’e Vigil of Clackamas is the top-ranked wrestler at that weight. 

NIC sophomore Jeremiah Zuniga is third at 141, sophomore Sam Silveria sixth at 149, Porter Craig first at 157, sophomore Conan Northwind third at 174, sophomore Noah Poe-Hatten second at 184 aand Sophomore Chandler Loveless is eighth at 197. 

Julian Gorring (184) and Etahn Birch (285) are ranked eighth nationally for Clackamas. Josh Hannan (157) and Cesar Avelar (157) are third. 


Division III, NAIA football 

playoffs beginning today 


Whitworth of Spokane is back in the Division III playoffs for the second year a row, opening the postseasn at home today at noon at the Pine Bowl against Pomona-Pitzer. 

Whitworth (9-1) was 21st in the Division III Coaches Poll, received an at-large berth. Pomona-Pitzer (8-2) won the Southern California Conference championship last Saturday. 

The game will be streamed on ESPN+. 

The NAIA football playoffs begin today with four games on the first-round schedule. 

Frontier Conference schools Montana-Western (9-1) and Montana Tech (9-2) earned first-round byes and will play their first games next week.
