BLM seeks public input on West Fork Pine Creek route

| November 22, 2024 1:00 AM

KELLOGG — The Bureau of Land Management wants public input on the proposed West Fork Pine Creek Route Structures Project to determine potential environmental impacts.

The West Fork Pine Creek Route, which has a section called the “Rollercoaster,” has man-made structures that have not been analyzed. Analysis is required by the National Environmental Policy Act and National Historic Preservation Act.

The Coeur d’Alene Field Office intends to analyze the impact of the structures on the human and natural environment within the Rochat Divide-Pine Creek Special Recreation Management Area using the NEPA process.

Public comments are being accepted from Nov. 21 to Dec. 23 and comments may be submitted on the BLM site.

Public comments sought on map correction

The BLM Coeur d’Alene Field Office is also seeking public comment on corrections to the Rochat Divide-Pine Creek Special Recreation Management Area map.

The map corrects the Rochat Divide-Pine Creek SRMA portion of the Motorized Route Designations — Silver Valley Map 4 originally distributed in 2007.

The purpose of the map correction is to fix errors and clarify route designations about which routes are available for motorized travel and seasonal restrictions that may apply.

Corrections include taking off the map routes that were discovered not to exist during an on-the-ground route inventory conducted in 2015.

Routes for which the BLM does not have public use easements and routes designated as “closed to public use or administrative use only.” All other route restrictions remain the same as on the original map.

The public comment period runs from Nov. 21 to Dec. 6. For more information, contact the Coeur d’Alene Field Office at 208-769-5000.
