Return of the Turkey Trot, Wallace Elks Thanksgiving Day dinner
WALLACE — Michael Hoffman has one message for folks in the Silver Valley this Thanksgiving Day: “Do the Turkey Trot with us!”
Inspired by other runs to fight hunger, money and food donations raised through the fun run will benefit the Wallace Food Bank.
The 3-mile run/walk in its first year in 2023 had about 40 participants. A few even dressed up in Thanksgiving-themed costumes.
The race begins 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 28, under the freeway by Wallace Junior/Senior High School.
Participants can register by emailing wallacefoodbank@gmail.com for $7 or five nonperishable food items. If you sign up on Thanksgiving Day to run, it's $10 or seven nonperishable food items. Get more information by calling 916-764-9252.
The Wallace Elks are also hosting an event to fight food scarcity.
On Thanksgiving Day, Silver Valley residents can enjoy a free Thanksgiving dinner from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Elks building, 419 Cedar St., Wallace.
“My thought is everyone should have Thanksgiving dinner, as many people as we can possibly feed,” Wallace Elks board member Cindy Lien said. “It went so well last year, I really want to provide the same experience for the community.”
Lien said 26 turkeys and 10 hams and other items will feed about 250 people.
