| November 17, 2024 1:15 AM

COEUR d’ALENE — Lake City had three players in double figures, led by sophomore Macy Murphee with 15 points as the Timberwolves opened the season with a 56-22 win over the Lewiston Bengals in an Inland Empire League game at Lake City High on Saturday.

Lake City, which graduated five players off last year’s state runner-up, led 26-8 at halftime.

“We got a lot of fast break points tonight where the first player down the court was going to get the ball,” Lake City coach David Pratt said. “The balance was great, but on some nights you won’t see that. But tonight, it was great to see.”

Ella Pearson (11 points) and Maggie Hiltenbrand (10 points) also led the Timberwolves.

Lake City hosts Lakeland on Tuesday.

Lewiston (1-1) travels to Timberlake on Tuesday.

POST FALLS — Junior Kailey Walton scored nine of her team-high 21 points in the second quarter for the Trojans in an Inland Empire League win over the Bears in the debut of coach Mike Divilbiss at The Arena.

“We came out and were really aggressive defensively,” said Divilbiss, who previously coached at Lewis-Clark State and Idaho. “I loved the energy the kids played with. They created a lot of gravity with their energy. Moscow had some good size around the basket, so we needed to play fast, aggressive and quick. They’ve put in a lot of time and they’re a fun group to work with.”

Senior Myckenzee Mitley scored 15 points for Post Falls, which hosts Sandpoint on Tuesday.

Jessa Skinner scored 21 points for Moscow.

“They’re two very talented players,” Sandpoint coach Will Love said. “The 44 points stands out, but what they did defensively to put themselves and the team in a position to win can’t go unstated — it was a great game from those two and a great effort by the entire team.”
