MY TURN: Response to Marmont

This letter is in response to “My Turn” Nov. 9, by Ms. Ethel Steinmetz Marmont.

I am 91 years old and do remember when Liberal Democrats and Conservative Republicans had civilized dialogues. Members of both parties were patriots. My family was Republican, my best high school friend and family were Democrats; this was OK.

The intention herein is a respectful and courteous opposition conversation. A reverent type of discussion is really captured by the Robert Kennedy Jr. statement paraphrased, He did not leave the Democrat Party, the party of his uncle and father left him! Repeat — the party left him! This is when he joined the Trump team.

There is serious debate by top U.S. legal experts on the validity of "trumped-up" legal charges against Trump. An alarming false charge was the early morning ATF weaponized assault on the Trump family at Mar-a-Lago. In addition of being a Fascist type action, the secret documents, legally in his possession, were held under a tight secure location.

Democrat accusations do not reflect the proven Trump administration of 2017-21! President Trump administration achievements: massive tax cuts, roaring economy, energy independence, rebuilding our military, pro-life stands, roll back regulations, border security, world-wide recognition and respect, there are many more. Trump promises the same this term as last; promises made, promises kept!

A statement is made in the article, “… country is taken over by Billionaires,” (I think she was referring to Republicans). Not so! A couple of statements from many articles: Newsmax data shows wealthier Americans are now solidly behind the Democratic Party. Washington Examiner shows Democrats are the party of the wealthy, a flip from decades ago when it was the party of the poor and middle class. Bernie Sanders calls out Democrats for abandoning the working class. This should come as no great surprise, lobby money works in the Beltway!

Another statement is, “… backdoor ban on abortion.” Trump is pro-life! It is in the Bill of Rights, 10th Amendment, states, “… It reserves to the states or the people the powers not delegated to the Federal …” Trump correctly sees that "Roe" violates the Constitution and requested the power be returned to states; where it belongs! Abortion decisions are states’ rights.

The statement regarding religion misses the point of Trump, who stands strong for freedom of religion — The First Amendment!

Yes! I do wish that it was possible to revoke The Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). Unfortunately, it having been passed in 2010, is so ingrained in the health system in our country, that it is impossible to cancel the act. Best case scenario would be to attack the act piecemeal, until all possible changes can be made. In my opinion, this act is a major cause in the less than desirable health care service we're forced to live with today.

Yes, stifling the economy may temporarily cost; however, there must be some belt tightening to bring the economy back to being sustainable and livable. There will be cutbacks to the spending caused by the Democrat Party. This will reduce or eliminate government hand-outs. To me, one can argue that both parties spend more money from lobbyist promises, than a Conservative Republic requires. Regardless of party in office, there should be a concentrated effort to severely cut the budget — cut spending.

A statement was made, “… may long to restore Democracy.”

May I point out, we do not live in a Democracy form of government, we live in constitutional federal republic form of government! Which briefly is a federation, (Federal State) self-governing states under a federal government.

A statement was made, “We may need to brace for some real pain. Good luck, red hats. It won’t be long before the party is over.” Wrong! The party is about to begin; like the 2017-20 good time period, we will begin to realize the greatness potential we can have in the USA! Unlike the disastrous past four years that gave us the very high price of groceries, gas (2019 $2.50 per gallon; now double), and general cost of living (check the inflation now as compared to 2021) along with thousands of undocumented illegal immigrant criminals that have been permitted unrestrained access into the U.S. Point is made I need not go on. This alone is a large impact on the U.S. budget.
