Daughters of the American Revolution invites ladies over 18 to attend Friday program

The Daughters of the American Revolution Lt. George Farragut Chapter is inviting women over 18 to attend a program Friday and learn more about the organization.

DAR members will host a presentation and award ceremony, featuring Birds of Prey Northwest, at the Hayden Eagles, 1520 W. Wyoming Ave., Hayden. Check-in is at 9:30 a.m. The program goes from 10 to 10:45 a.m. with a break until 11 a.m. A business meeting will be held from 11 a.m. to noon, with a potato bar lunch from noon to 1:30 p.m. Lunch is $20. Guests are asked to RSVP to ltgeorgefarragut@gmail.com by Wednesday.

"This is a great opportunity for those interested in learning more about the DAR and our mission to see what we do firsthand and learn how to start the application process," Lt. George Farragut Chapter Regent Michelle Fansler said.

DAR is a nonprofit, nonpolitical entity that promotes American history, patriotism and education. As a genealogical society, it boasts 190,000 members in 3,000 chapters across the United States and internationally. Any woman 18 or older who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution is eligible for membership. 

The Lt. George Farragut Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, was formed in 1965. Its mission: "To promote patriotism, education and historic preservation; and to serve our country by preserving the memory and spirit of the men and women who fought or gave service in the cause of freedom and independence during the American Revolutionary War."

The chapter meets monthly from September through May.
