STATE FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS: Post Falls, bidding for first trip to semis since 1995, falls to Rigby
RIGBY — It worked out the first time, and few after that.
But it just wasn’t quite enough for the Post Falls football team on Friday night.
Caleb Jimmerson returned a kickoff to the 25-yard line, setting up a touchdown run by Devin Burton to tie the game at 7-7.
Rigby went on to score the final 38 points of the first half, beating the Trojans 52-21 in a state 6A quarterfinal game on Friday, ending Post Falls season at 7-4.
“Our kick returners (Jimmerson) and Trenton McLean had a great night,” Post Falls coach Blaine Bennett said. “They put us in really good field position three or four times tonight. Our guys blocked really well and coach Dan Pearse had a great scheme tonight.”
Post Falls, which beat Borah 49-21 at home last Friday for its first playoff win since 2018, was bidding for a berth in the semifinals for the first time since 1995.
Jace Ostlund caught a 41-yard touchdown pass from Isaac McKeown and Shawn Hudson returned an interception late in the fourth quarter for a score for Post Falls.
“I’m really proud of our team,” Bennett said. “We had an excellent season. It’s always hard when it’s done. But this group of seniors won a lot of games for this program, and that’s something we’ll celebrate at the football banquet. It’s hard to celebrate now, but there’s a lot of positive things about this year.”
Rigby (9-1) advances to face Rocky Mountain (10-0) of Meridian in the semifinals next weekend.
“Rigby has some skilled players and are really good up front,” Bennett said. “They’re a good football team and well coached. They just do a good job.”
