RATHDRUM — The Lakeland Joint School District will discuss its supplemental levy and potential next steps during a special meeting in the Lakeland High School commons at 6 tonight.
The levy narrowly failed Tuesday evening, with 49.41% (10,241 voters) of constituents approving the measure and 50.59% (10,485 voters) voting it down.
The $9.52 million-per-year, two-year supplemental levy would have replaced the current levy that expires at the end of the school year. The funds comprise 25% of the district's $40 million budget, the majority of which pays for staff salaries and benefits. Levy dollars also fund athletics, extracurricular activities, school safety and security and more.
Lakeland High is at 7006 W. Highway 53, Rathdrum.
