CASPER, Wyo. — Sophomore Vaughn Weems scored a game-high 33 points for North Idaho College in a season-opening 91-83 loss to the Casper Thunderbirds on Friday night.
Freshman Sam Marbury scored 15 points for NIC, which faces Northwest of Powell, Wyo., today.
Abdul Bashir scored 23 points for Casper.

GRAYSON, Texas — Freshman Kylani Rookstool scored 11 points for the Cardinals in a season-opening loss to the Vikings in the Grayson College Showcase.
“We struggled to get into offensive rhythm in the second quarter,” NIC coach Nathan Covill said. “Offensively, we had too many unforced turnovers and defensively we struggled to keep people in front of us. I was proud of how we didn’t quit and that we made the right adjustments in the second half. This game will only help us learn and grow.”
NIC faces Collin County today to conclude the tournament.

COEUR d’ALENE — The host Cardinals won five matches via technical fall to beat the Vikings in a dual at Christianson Gymnasium.
“Elijah (Cater, who wrestled at 125) got things rolling right away to set the tone,” NIC coach Derrick Booth said. “It was a good team win.”
NIC travels to the Mountaineer Open on Sunday on the campus of Eastern Oregon University in La Grande, Ore.
