POST FALLS — Halloween has come and gone, and the weight of the giant pumpkin grown by the Post Falls Streets Department has finally been announced.

Gaining the nickname Hefty because of its impressive size, the pumpkin became a feature at Post Falls City Hall as officials hosted a contest for residents to guess the correct weight to win a $25 gift certificate toward registration in a Parks and Recreation program.

The pumpkin's total weight was 441 pounds and the contest winner, Cindy Thomas, was closest with a guess of 436.5 pounds.

What will be the fate of the giant gourd?

The streets team said Friday that Hefty will be harvested for its seeds and the rest will be put out for wildlife to enjoy.

The great pumpkin of Post Falls was grown by the city's streets division.
