Sons of Norway in town
COEUR d'ALENE — More than 150 people from Idaho, Washington, Oregon and Alaska are in town for the District 2 Convention for Sons of Norway.
The Harald Haarfager Lodge in Coeur d’Alene has hosted two other conventions in 2010 and 2016. They teamed up with the Tordenskjold Lodge in Spokane to present this year’s convention, which started Wednesday and wraps up Saturday.
“Sons of Norway started over 125 years ago to ensure help for members during tough times, and to be part of an organization who still carries out that mission is very rewarding,” said Suzanne Knutson, spokeswoman.
Activities include discussions on future activities, budgets, cultural presentations, a memorial service and voting in new officers for the district and zones.
After the orientation for first-time delegates, the group enjoyed dinner and entertainment by a local duo Courtney and Company, which is Courtney Riddle and David Powell.
Powell’s grandmother was a longtime member of the Coeur d’Alene group.
“I remember attending different events over the years with my grandmother, and it’s nice to come and play music for such a special group and see so many familiar faces,” Powell said.
The Coeur d’Alene group has been meeting since 1910 and as a first-time delegate, Knutson said she is looking forward to meeting members from other lodges in the district and learning more about their operations.
