A rising star in North Idaho is lighting up streaming platforms today as she makes her music video debut.

Sydney Jacobson, 17, who performs under her stage name, Sydney Dale, released the video for "Girl You Call a Friend" early this morning. She wrote and recorded the song in Nashville.

"I'm just really excited to put it out," Sydney said Wednesday. "I love this song, and I know a lot of people are excited about it. I put a lot of hard work into it."

The video was filmed at locations in North Idaho, including Roger's Ice Cream and Burgers on Sherman Avenue and Lake City High School, where Sydney is a senior.

"It’s very cinematic," she said. "It is pretty much like a movie, almost acting out everything from the song."

She worked with local company Northern Visuals on the videography.

"This was their first music video as well, so we got to explore that together," Sydney said.

She included friends from Lake City, Coeur d'Alene High School, Gonzaga Preparatory School and North Idaho College as well as friends who are homeschooled. The male lead in the video is Coeur d'Alene High junior Kyle Rohlinger, who has been a friend of Sydney's since they were 8.

“I thought it was super fun, because I knew a lot of the people acting. It was fun hanging out with them and meeting new people," Kyle said. "It was just a great experience and I think Sydney did a great job with the song, producing and directing it and everything. It’s going to be really good. It was an awesome experience."

"For Sydney, this was her baby," her mom, Alyssa Jacobson, said. "She directed it, she pretty much did it all."

The up-and-coming musician keeps a full gig schedule as she pursues her singer-songwriter passion while finishing her last year of high school and working a normal teenage job. She's been featured on radio shows, modeled in L.A. for a live recording photo shoot with a clothing company, won a $1,500 scholarship for vocal performance at the University of Idaho's Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival and did this all while working on her first music video.

“She just blows me away," Jacobson said.

Sydney said she wasn't thinking of going to college until she won the scholarship, so she is now applying to the University of Idaho and considering a music trade school in Tennessee.

The young songstress' voice and talent are described as "distinctive," "undeniably captivating" and "dreamy" in Indie Boulevard digital magazine.

"My short-term goal is to have an opening tour," Sydney said. "My long-term goal is to have my own tour and to continue writing songs and making albums."
