Day 1 of Rathdrum throws meet in the books
RATHDRUM — American Roger Steen, ranked 12th in the world in the shot put, won the men’s shot put with a toss of 20.77 meters (68.143 feet) on Thursday, the first day of the Iron Wood Throws Classic at the Iron Wood Throws Center.
Brian Williams of the U.S., ranked 18th in the world in the men’s discus, won the discus on Thursday with a toss of 64.99 meters (213.221 feet).
Pat Vialva of Portland, who just completed his sophomore season at Montana State, won the men’s javelin with a throw of 68.44 meters (224.54 feet).
Justin Stafford, who formerly competed at UCLA, won the men’s hammer throw at 73.00 meters (239.5 feet).
Jessica Woodard, third at the 2022 USA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships and ranked 14th in the world, won the women’s shot put at 17.6 meters (57.74 feet).
Hawaiian-born Laulauga Tausaga-Collins, who won the gold at the 2023 world championships, won the women’s discus at 63.59 meters (208.63 feet).
Jillian Shippee, who competed at North Carolina, won the women’s hammer with a throw of 69.76 meters (228.87 feet).
Day 2 of the meet is Saturday, beginning at noon.
