Osburn Public Library adds to children's book collection thanks to rural library grant

OSBURN — The Osburn Public Library recently received $1,930 to add new children’s books through a Pilcrow Foundation’s rural libraries grant.
The library initially applied for a $1,200 grant and was awarded subsequent funding.
Nearly $300 that will go toward health and wellness books was provided by doctors Bill Strawbridge and Meg Wallhagen, and over $400 for math and science books came from Hal Berenson and Laura Ackerman.
The library also was given a match award of $400 by city of Osburn attorneys Ramsden, Marfice, Ealy and De Smet, based in Coeur d’Alene.
Library director Jamee Sperry said the library was able to purchase 113 new children’s books.
“We have a lot of new nonfiction books and some really good story books, and we’re anxious to add all this to our collection,” Sperry said.
Early readers' books and juvenile fiction were among the new additions. Sperry said The Pilcrow Foundation does this to boost collections at small libraries.
“Just in time for summer reading, we’ll have some new books,” Sperry said.
