EDITORIAL: New KCRCC infuses hope into politics

| May 26, 2024 1:00 AM

With North Idaho Republicans capturing 30 of the 73 precinct committeeman positions, the official party brain trust's meetings are going to be a whole lot more interesting.

And potentially more constructive.

Will the infusion of all these bright, community-first public servants effect significant changes, like ejecting the deeply flawed “rated and vetted” process that has led to such poor leadership on the boards overseeing North Idaho College and the Community Library Network?

Will KCRCC continue to take sides in Republican primaries or stand respectfully aside and let party voters decide who should advance to general elections?

And how about nonpartisan elections? Will the newly shaped KCRCC now honor the political neutrality that was always intended to govern these important local elections?

Can KCRCC create an environment that welcomes all local Republicans?

And will at least a modicum of transparency in political messaging arise?

These are just a few of the questions that will be answered, probably by varying degrees, over the next two years and beyond. But this much is certain: A higher level of internal checks and balances is at hand.

Kootenai County is incredibly fortunate to have so many courageous, conscientious citizens willing to work hard and risk so much for the betterment of the community. It's safe to say that momentum has now, for the first time in decades, begun to shift.
