Memorial Day events, ceremonies begin Friday

North Idaho will pay tribute to America's heroes and commemorate their sacrifices during upcoming Memorial Day events and services.

Kootenai County Sheriff Bob Norris is scheduled to give a Memorial Day speech at 11 a.m. Monday at the Marine Corps League Pappy Boyington Detachment 966 Memorial Day Ceremony at the Coeur d'Alene Memorial Gardens, 7315 N. Government Way.

"Sheriff Robert B. Norris is grateful to be a part of this Memorial Day service, to honor and remember all the brave heroes who sacrificed their lives for our country," a Friday press release from the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office said.

• Wreath laying on Hayden Lake | 9:30 a.m. Honeysuckle Beach, 2369 E. Honeysuckle Ave., Hayden. Presented by the Hayden Veterans Commission and U.S. Submarine Veterans Inc. The Honeysuckle Beach boat launch will remain open during the wreath-laying ceremony. Visitors are asked to be considerate and quiet during the ceremony between 9:30-10:15 a.m. and to follow the detour directions to get to Honeysuckle Beach.

• American Legion Post 154 Memorial Day Ceremony | 10 a.m. Mountain View Cemetery, 4301 E. Highway 54, Athol. Guest Speaker: Post Commander Al Hutchins.
