HOUSING: Hear what people want

| May 24, 2024 1:00 AM

Commissioners want more “affordable housing.” As a young adult growing up here in the service industry, most are single and don’t want the tie-down or responsibility of homeownership, just a small AFFORDABLE studio/1-2 bedroom. A lot of retired/ widowed want the same.

Renting is also a stepstone to ownership, to have time to save money, build credit, advance in employment, etc.

Do you not listen to the community while they were being kicked out and priced out of their rentals? By the way, long-term rentals NOT short term.

Get in reality with our young workers and older folks who are being priced out of town! Ask the young workers, go to the senior center and ask, ask the nonprofit services — what’s their biggest struggle? Affordable rentals!

Us old folks aren’t selling our homes. Some of us would like to downsize to a small, low-maintenance apartment. There are none. And you wonder why the increase of homelessness? Politicians out of touch, greed…what happened here?
