COEUR d'ALENE — A Coeur d'Alene home was destroyed in a fire this week.

Craig Etherton, fire investigator with the Coeur d'Alene Fire Department, said there was no one at the house in the 3200 block of Ninth Street when the fire started about 3:30 a.m. Sunday, but a dog died in the blaze.

Etherton said Kootenai Fire and Rescue and the Northern Lakes Fire District also responded to the two-alarm fire.

A neighbor, Jonathan Frisbie, told The Press a dog, Angus, nudged him and he looked out the window, saw flames and called 911.

"It looked like the sun was shining bright on the ground," he said.

Frisbie said a couple lived in the room with several pets.

"They work really hard," he said. "For this to happen to them, it's a tragedy."

Etherton said firefighters doused the blaze and secured the property. An investigation started Monday morning.

"We were able to help the occupant get some of his valuables out of the home before we left," he said.

Etherton said several vehicles were damaged in the fire and the home was likely a complete loss.

"At this time, the fire is not suspicious and appears to be accidental," he said.
